A receiver of premonitions within cyclical reality, C. Kalberer channels her vivid, mythical dreams and visions through her work. Mirroring her experience of seeing colors while meditating, the fluid nature of paints and audio tones quiet the mind. Her first psychedelic experience prompted an intense vision the moment she closed her eyes. A vivid orange goddess glowed with her eyes closed, smiling gently. Encircling her raven locks were seven open eyes. During a past-life meditation, she embodied a young, wealthy European man; dressed in a velvet waistcoat, lounging in a bucolic scene. All his possessions were being recouped while an elder woman calmly gazed at him, as he passed on. She was then surrounded by seven light beings, who placed an infant light-being in her arms.

Medium choice

Gouache, an opaque watercolor, is selected for its fluid, transformative properties. Historically this medium was feminized and seen as lesser. However, the feminine is creation and responsible for birth and nurturing life. It is immediate and requires a decisive hand. The marks are indelible and cannot be easily covered. Water is what gives this medium its transparent properties and fluid movement. The layers compound into countless organic possibilities.

Porcelain, precious metals and minerals exude permanence. The alchemical process of firing clay at volcanic temperatures is an irreversible process of faith. Porcelain, when paper-thin has an ethereal translucency that is revered. A medium that’s been with us from at least 28,000 BCE and took us into outer space.
